PSAT INFORMATION

TEST DATE:  Saturday, October 18, 2008

PLACE:  The Morgan School (You will be notified in which room)

TIME:  You must be there by 7:30AM – Testing will begin promptly at 7:45AM.

SUPPLIES:  Two (or more) #2 pencils, eraser, approved calculator (see bulletin, p.16), watch (optional), social security number (optional), email address (optional).

FEE:  YOU WILL NOT BE CHARGED ANY FEE.  THE SCHOOL WILL PAY FOR ANY JUNIOR OR SOPHOMORE TO TAKE THE PSAT.  YOU MUST SIGN UP WITH GUIDANCE BY TUESDAY, OCTOBER AND ONCE YOU SIGN UP, YOU WILL BE COMMITTED TO TAKE THE TEST.

THE PSAT:  will measure critical thinking skills that are important for success in college, including:

            ~Critical Reading    – sentence completion (13 questions)

                                               - passage based reading (35 questions)

            ~Math Problem Solving (number and operation, algebra and functions, geometry

                                                      and measurement, data analysis, statistics and

                                                       probability)

                                              - multiple choice (28 questions)

                                              - student-produced responses/grid in (10 questions)

~Writing Skills        - improving sentences (20 questions)

- identifying sentence errors (14 questions)

- improving paragraphs (5 questions)

THE PSAT BULLETIN CONTAINS VALUABLE INFORMATION ABOUT THE TEST, THE NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP CORPORATION, AND A PRACTICE TEST TO HELP YOU PREPARE FOR THE PSAT.  USE IT!!!
