Cooperative International Internship Program Clinton Public Schools Clinton, Connecticut, USA University of Northwest Switzerland Basal, Switzerland 2008-2009
l. to r.: Swiss Interns Florence, Valery and Isabelle
The staff at Joel School is extremely proud of our expanding relationship with University of Northwest Switzerland in Basel, Switzerland. Each year the university selects students who then spend six weeks studying the American education system. They are placed with a host family and assigned to a master teacher in one of our classrooms.
The program is open to seniors in the teacher college who have earned high academic standing and are fluent in several languages. Applicants are selected after interviewing with a panel of professors and administrators. This is a highly competitive program and we are grateful for the opportunity to learn from our Swiss guests as they experience our culture and learn about the American School system.
In the spring of 2005, fifteen teachers, administrators, parents and a student, traveled to Basel to experience the Swiss education system and culture. They visited elementary and high school classrooms, attended lectures at the university (thankfully taught in English) and explored the local culture and cuisine. The foundation of a growing partnership has been established. Four students have been selected to intern in Clinton during the 2009-2010 school year. Stop back to this site for more information.
