An enormous mural covers the inside of our school cafetorium.  Artist JoAnn Moran from DaVinci Designs came to Joel for 2 weeks in March 2004, and worked with every classroom during the art teacher's rotation.   Before she arrived, children were asked to draw pictures they felt represented good character which was the theme of the mural.  JoAnn took some of their pictures and sketched enlarged outlines of their work onto big white canvases.  When she came to Joel, she worked with each class having them fill in the sketches with Q-tips.  This technique is called "pointillism" after the French Neo-Impressionist painter Georges-Pierre Seurat.  After all of the canvases were painted, JoAnn assembled them on the cafeteria wall and a crew of parent volunteers came in to finish painting on the walls where the children could not reach.

Here are highlights of the beautiful results.
