On Team 6-2 we begin the year by studying about culture. We learn that the U.S. culture is a beautiful mosaic of many cultures. The students then investigate their own heritage and are to visualize the influence that their ancestors had in the creation of this mosaic. Studying the history of immigration in the United States is an important feature of this unit. Traveling to Ellis Island allows the students the opportunity to feel like immigrants as we ferry across to the island. Students view actual pictures and possessions of the immigrants. We visit exhibits that detail the entire inspection process. The students are also able to learn a great deal from the interactive displays. This culminating unit on culture, immigration, and genealogy really makes history "come alive" for our students. | |||||||
